The contingent was in Australia to discover the value of the Australian wool industry and its long-lasting bond with Ermenegildo Zegna, globally recognised for its luxurious and innovative woollen fabrics and menswear collections, and an expression of the authentic Italian style and timeless elegance.

The media and guests were visiting some of Australia’s top woolgrowing farms to see first-hand where Australian Merino wool originates. Their visit to Australia culminated in a stunning and globally anticipated gala event on Tuesday April 23 at the historic Royal Hall of Industries in Sydney.

The gala event – hosted by Zegna and attended by international and national media, VIPs, celebrities and friends of Zegna – included the announcement of the winner of the Ermenegildo Zegna Wool Award for Superfine Wool and the winner of the prestigious Vellus Aureum Trophy.

The Ermenegildo Zegna Wool Awards were established in 1963 to reward Australian Merino breeders’ commitment to quality. The evening also included a fashion show featuring Zegna’s Fall/Winter 2013 collection enriched by a special capsule collection dedicated to Merino wool, an installation with multimedia projections, and a grand party featuring musicians Temper Trap.

Gildo Zegna, CEO of the Ermenegildo Zegna Group and Paolo Zegna, Chairman, flew from Milan for the celebration, were joined at Tuesday’s gala event by Australian film star Chris Hemsworth, Korean-American actor Daniel Henney, Hong Kong-based actor and singer Leon Lai, and Australian actress and model Megan Gale.

The Woolmark Company supports Ermenegildo Zegna’s initiative with the intention to increase awareness and appreciation of Australian Merino wool across the world, underlining the role of Australian woolgrowers within the fashion and textile industries and enhancing values like quality, innovation, education, provenance and traceability.
