Luxury and innovation on show at textile awards

Four of China’s leading fabric makers have been awarded first place at the 2016 China International Fabrics Creation Competition, showcasing the versatility and luxury of Merino wool.

Sponsored by the China National Textile and Apparel Council, an esteemed panel of industry experts reviewed more than 200 fabric submissions from local companies, universities, institutions and designers.

Jiangsu Sunshine Group and Shandong Ruyi Technology Group Co., Ltd were winners of the Best Merino Quality category, whilst Best Merino Innovation (Knitted) went to Zhejiang Steady Textile & Clothing Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu Danmao Textile Co., Ltd took out Best Merino Innovation (Woven), the former made from 100% Australian Merino wool and the latter more than 50% Australian Merino wool.

A prestigious judging panel determined the competition winners.

Sponsored by The Woolmark Company the competition is organised by the China Textile Information Center and showcases the latest achievements in local fabric and textile design as well as product development. The competition encourages companies to develop new fabrics and designs in order to remain competitive in the global and local industry, as well as align themselves with market demands and fashion trends.

FabricsChina, in collaboration with The Woolmark Company, this year introduced the two new award categories dedicated to Merino wool. The prizes aimed to encourage textile manufacturers to submit innovative fabric products made with Australian Merino wool, as well as highlight the fibre’s unique characteristics. The fabrics needed to show market-viable applications in terms of quality, texture, functionality and appearance, in addition to leading the latest developments in wool fashion.
