Designer Rajesh Pratap Singh has been announced as The Woolmark Company’s inaugural wool ambassador for India.
“Merino wool is an amazing fibre and I was excited to use it in my collection,” commented Mr Singh.
“The association with The Woolmark Company comes with a huge responsibility of promoting this unique natural fibre across the country and this collection is one such initiative towards the same.”
Mr Singh hails from Rajasthan and across the years has created his unique signature style that is subtly drawn from his Indian roots. His magnificent styles stand unmatched due to their faultlessly clean lines, careful detailing and international silhouettes. His work epitomizes simplicity, yet combines modern with traditional and complements the unique attributes of the Merino wool fibre.
Mr Singh has designed his collection in Merino wool with inspiration from The Wool Lab Autumn/Winter 2013/14. In his Autumn/Winter 2013 collection he traces his roots, juxtaposing masculinity and femininity. The collection is a tribute to the rural traditional of India that epitomizes traditional tailoring in a more modern and contemporary light.
As the collection evolves from the heavier tweeds to knits and felts, the ensembles present a tailored look, with an underlying theme of stark contrasts as structural pieces like men’s blazers are teamed with sheer dhotis.
“This is the first time we have associated with an Indian designer as an ambassador for wool,” The Woolmark Company CEO Stuart McCullough said. “It is a huge responsibility for Rajesh to promote Merino wool in India.
“Rajesh is one of the finest designers with an in-depth knowledge of wool. He is a perfect fit for this program as his creations transpire fashion and style. I look forward to a long and exciting relationship.”
Commenting on the grand fashion event WLIFW and as a co-sponsor, The Woolmark Company country manager for India, Amir Sheikh, said: “Rajesh Pratap Singh is undisputedly one of the leading designers in India and his collection on the catwalk dazzled with creativity. Our association with Rajesh has started successfully and through his collection we will reach out to our customers across the country.”
The collection will retail across Rajesh Pratap Singh stores in India as well as international multi-brand stores in the autumn.
