Vivienne Westwood presents Merino Laine at Paris Fashion Week

5 March 2012

The Vivienne Westwood Gold Label show took place this Saturday March 3rd 2012 at the prestigious Cité de la mode et du design in Paris, to showcase the latest Autumn - Winter 2012/13 collection.

In an historic partnership with The Woolmark Company, Vivienne Westwood celebrates the finest Australian Merino wool featured in knitted and woven garments as seen in the new collection. Highlights include 100% Merino wool jersey 'intimo' button down one pieces tailored to the body and pleated style fine knit skirts in Autumnal shades.

With a design record spanning over forty years, Vivienne Westwood, the designer and iconic British brand is recognized as one of the most influential fashion designers in the world today. With a rich history of creating fashion and generating influence, Vivienne Westwood is renowned for using different forms of wool and noble fibres in her collections and has always been an avid support for the use of wool in fashion.

'Wool is one of the world's great natural fibres, famous for its versatility and comfort - warm in winter, cool in summer, it is incredibly versatile,' explained Ms Westwood.

'When I began as a fashion designer, well over thirty years ago, I succeeded in re-introducing into fashion the idea of fine knitwear, the English twinset. Everybody loves this fine knitwear. It's so light, so comfortable. You can add more than one layer and it looks great.'

Stuart McCullough, CEO of Australian Wool Innovation, owners of The Woolmark Company said, 'We are very pleased to have one of the world's most influential and important designers of our time, Vivienne Westwood, showcasing Merino wool at its finest. Merino wool is a beautiful natural fibre; Vivienne Westwood highlights its modernity and relevance in high end fashion.'

The Vivienne Westwood Autumn - Winter 2012/13 Gold Label collection and special edition Merino wool pieces will be available worldwide from selected Vivienne Westwood stores.

It subsequently toured the world for five years and was exhibited in over ten cities. About The Woolmark Company:

The Woolmark is the world's best known textile fibre brand, established in 1964.

The Woolmark brand is owned by Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), a not-for-profit company owned by over 29,000 woolgrowers.

AWI's vision is to be a significant contributor to a vibrant, stable and profitable wool industry providing the world with the best natural fibre. The company works throughout the global supply chain - from woolgrowers through to retailers.

The company mission is to enhance the profitability, international competitiveness and sustainability of the Australian wool industry; and increase demand and market access for Australian wool.

Merino wool provides stability, durability, softness and luxury to the tailoring industry. The fibre has long been a favourite of designers, but younger consumers, born in an era of 'disposable' fashion know too little about the natural benefits.

Wool is a 100% natural and renewable fibre.

Sheep live on grass, water, fresh air and sunshine. Wool is a fibre that is grown - not manmade. Every year sheep produce a new fleece; making wool a renewable fibre source.

There is no finer feeling than Merino wool.
