Weekly Wool Prices

Week Ending 18 December (Week 25)

18 December 2015

The final Australian wool auction sales for the calendar year were held this week under a less than expected volume of around 42,000 bales. Almost all sectors of the offering recorded price rises, with the standout performers being the Merino fleece segment which posted gains of between 15 and 35ac/clean kg under a tight supply situation. The Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) gained a strong 14 acents for the week to close at 1265ac/clean kg, a level which is almost 20% better than last year’s Christmas recess closing levels. Indeed, AWEX are reporting that the 1265ac level is the highest conclusion to a calendar year on record.
