Wool care

Cleaning wool shoes

Wool shoes are easy to care for. Follow these simple steps to ensure your wool shoes are squeaky clean and good as new.

To make sure your wool shoes not only last a lifetime, but remain looking and smelling fresh, follow these steps when washing and drying your wool shoes.

1. Remove excess dirt, insoles and laces

Brush off excess dirt with a towel or soft brush. Remove the insoles and laces from your shoes.

2. Use wool wash

Use a neutral, mild detergent, preferably one that is Woolmark recommended and avoid bleach or heavy duty detergents.

3. Machine washing

Check to ensure your shoes are machine-washable. Put shoes in a linen bag and wash in a washing machine preferably using a Woolmark-approved wool cycle. If you don’t have a Woolmark-approved wool cycle, make sure to set the washing machine to use cold water and a wool or delicates cycle.

4. Hand-wash your insoles

When washing your insoles and laces, it’s best to wash them by hand using a mild wool wash detergent and cold water. If your shoes are hand-wash only, follow the same steps as the insoles and laces for hand-washing.

5. Air dry your shoes

Do not tumble dry your wool shoes. Your wool shoes will respond best to air drying.

6. Reinsert the insoles

Reinsert the insole and laces and then your wool shoes are ready to go.
